Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my project take?
Each project is custom, so the amount of time varies with the complexity of the project. But in general, most built-in projects take approximately two months from the initial design appointment to the installation of the project. The installation itself takes just one day.

Will it make a mess in my home?
Absolutely not. All the work is done in our workshop. The only interruption in your home is on the one day of installation.

How much will it cost?
Depends on what you want, how big it is, and what kind of wood you choose. All projects begin with a $50 deposit, deducted from the final invoice, that initiates our home visit to discuss design options and take precise measurements of the installation area.

I'm going to have some work done on the floor. Who should come in first, you or the floor contractor?
We install directly upon the hardwood floor. If you're rebuilding or refinishing your floor, schedule B&B Woodworking after the floor work is finished. If you're installing carpeting, schedule us first so that carpet contractor can bring the carpet up to the edge of our built-in. If you already have a carpet in place, please note that we have to pull up the carpeting in the area of the installation, and that the carpet will have to be re-applied in that area after our work is complete.

What's the difference between "stain-grade" and "paint-grade" wood?
After staining and finishing, the beauty of the "stain-grade" wood's grain will be exposed -- that's the unique appeal of fine woods such as cherry, maple or mahogany. The wood must be unblemished, and we take extra care to match the grain patterns throughout the project. The grain of "paint-grade" wood will be covered with paint, making grain-matching unnecessary. We use less expensive woods in "paint-grade" projects, so the final cost of painted projects tends to be less than "stain-grade" work.

Can I finish the projects myself?
Paint-grade projects are installed bare, ready for your primer and paint. We usually finish all stain-grade work, but can install the work unfinished for you to stain and seal.

Where do you offer your projects?
Our workshop is located in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. We generally serve customers in the Hopkinton/Middlesex/Blackstone River Valley area, but will do work as far south as Rhode Island, as far west as Worcester, and in the Boston metro area to the northeast.

How do I begin?
Just give us a call at (508) 278-0647 and we'll set up an appointment.
